What started as fun distraction during COVID lockdowns by friends, and now curators, Patti Boman and Paige Annon the Living Rock Snake, on the north wetlands path at Bayside Landing, was quickly adopted by the community to share how pandemic life-changes were affecting them. The snake is a timeline. It grows from day to day, month to month. The painted rocks have documented Imperial Beach’s journey, sharing hopes, dreams, fears, words of wisdom and even some silliness. Young and old find comfort in sharing their knowledge and realizing they were not alone in their thoughts. The Rock Snake grew quickly and is now more than 600ft long – two football fields, and still growing!
